You may think, by the title, that I am talking about a new yoga style. It’s actually meditation; and has nothing to do with yoga.
As I mentioned in previous blogs the actual word ‘yoga’ means Union, therefore, Union with the universe – it’s you and the universe, becoming one. This specific meditation technique was founded by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi (she claimed to have been born self-realized and had the aim to help people around her through her meditation) in 1970, and what is so special about this technique, is that it’s completely simple and completely free of charge.
This meditation is like any other, but it based mainly on Self-Realization- the Kundalini awakening. See, we all have this beautiful energy inside of us, Kundalini; and I can explain to you in very simple words how it works: this energy, this life force energy is located at the base of our spine when unawakened or asleep as I say it. As soon as it awakes, it begins to spiral upwards and wakes up the energy centers we have in our bodies. People who have their kundalini awakened are people who are ‘Self-Realized’ , meaning, the fulfillment of one’s personal potential in life; it’s the embodiment of our True Nature or the Higher Self beyond the Ego.
In Shri Mataji’s own words: “Global unity of mankind can be achieved through this awakening that can occur within each human being, so that transformation takes place within us. By this process a person becomes moral, united, integrated and balanced. One actually gets the experience of the feeling of the all-pervading divine power as cool breeze. “Know thyself” is the main theme of all the scriptures – it becomes evident and one reaches the absolute understanding of oneself.
It is through this meditation when we realize that we are not this body, and we are not this mind. What do I mean by that? For example, babies are born innocent, a clean spirit. It is the Ego, which makes us who we are, and that is why no one can be completely innocent. The Spirit is the source of true knowledge, peace and joy. Self Realization is the actualization of this connection with our Spirit, which as Shri Mataji advocates, is the birthright of every human being.
Jai Shri Mataji.
