Yoga on the water? – SUP Yoga and its benefits

SUP- Stand-up paddling Yoga, is probably the best way to get fit in the summer, with no sweat! And not only that, but also the best way to watch the sunset while practicing.I found out about SUP yoga from a really good friend of mine who had helped me get more into it this summer, and soon enough I started working for him as an instructor. I fell in love with it from the first glimpse of the beautiful positions done on the paddle boards facing the mesmerizing sunset.

This style of Yoga is a different kind, as it is done on the water, so balance is the most crucial part. When doing SUP Yoga, balance, focus, flexibility is improved, as well as the muscles are more toned as it takes quite a lot of strength to remain calm on the waves!  It allows you to create a deeper physical awareness, challenge your balance, provide the space for you to fully settle the mind chatter and gives you a freeness to be one in nature. It creates a depth that you cannot meet in the structure of four walls.

Moreover, classes are done with a small group of people each person on one board which is tied up to one big mandala on which the instructor is standing.

The class usually follows different styles; when there is a morning class, a more energetic style is included with a definite Surya Namaskar (Sun salutation) facing the sun and absorbing its energy , finishing off with a quiet meditation in Savasana with the hands in the water enjoying the warmth of the sun and the sound of the water beneath.

Sunset classes are my favourite ones. The class includes stretching, relaxing asanas, warriors, and once again peaceful meditation at the end of the class enjoying the beautiful sunset.

SUP yoga is perfect for anyone who wants to improve their focus; as we work on the positions the brain is intact, concentrating on the balance and the breath. Anyone can do it, and it is also a beautiful combination of practice and a little dip in the water! Summer 2020 will be approaching soon and I can’t wait to start a new fresh season of SUP Yoga ! I will be collaborating with Oliver in this beautiful journey with GreekGodFitness so make sure you check out his work!
